Failed the Life in the UK Test? What Happens Next
A fail is expensive (£50 per attempt) but very common — and it is not the end of anything. Your application is not refused because you failed the test; you simply cannot complete it until you pass.
The rules
- You must wait at least 7 days before retaking.
- Each retake costs another £50. There is no limit on the number of attempts.
- You are told which subject areas to study — but not which questions you got wrong, and you do not get the correct answers.
How to pass the retake
- Use the subject areas on your result as your syllabus — they point at the chapters that beat you.
- Drill those chapters specifically, reading every explanation, then sit timed mocks until you score 22+/24 twice running before rebooking.
- Leave enough time: most people need one to three weeks of focused practice between attempts.
